Are you spending a big chunk of your paycheck on groceries each week?
It’s probably one of your biggest expenses. But unlike some of your other expenses, there are a ton of different ways that you can actually save money on groceries.
I know that it’s possible because I’ve saved about $115 in the past 3 months.
One of the many ways that I’m able to stretch every dollar that I spend is by using apps to save money on groceries. If you didn’t know, there are like a bazillion apps out there but most aren’t worth your time and definitely not worth taking up precious real estate on your phone.
Over the past 6 months, I’ve been testing out a bunch of apps in hopes that it’ll save me money on my groceries. I’ve found apps that offer coupons and others that will give you money!
I’m kind of obsessed with them and use them religiously. Before every shopping trip, I make sure to look at every one of the apps because the offers can overlap on many of them. That means that I can get double or even triple the savings! At times, I’ve even made money on some items!
These apps have literally saved me hundreds of dollars! The best part, other than saving money, of course, is that it takes a little (and I mean minimal) amount of work. You can even do it when you’re watching tv. So totally worth it!
Try out these 7 apps and you’ll be sure to save money too!
Best Apps to Save Money on Groceries
Fetch has become one of my most favorite apps. You can use it no matter where you buy your groceries, which is amazing and different than a lot of the other apps!
It’s pretty simple. All you have to do is take a picture of your receipt and you’ll earn points that you can redeem for gift cards.
Make sure to use my referral code TD9AX so you get a signup bonus! Sign up for Fetch here.
Checkout 51 is another app where you can shop pretty much anywhere and still earn cashback. All you have to do is by something off their list and upload the receipt. But some items do have restrictions so make sure to read the fine print.
The list of offers can be a hit or miss, but the offer selection at Checkout 51 is growing. The list of offers refreshes every Thursday so make sure to cash in on the offers before they expire.
Ibotta is an app that pays you for everyday purchases at the grocery store (and a ton of other stores).
The great thing about Ibotta is that they have a huge selection of offers that you can cash in on, including alcohol and a picture of your receipt. Yep, you read that right, you can earn $0.25 a week for a picture of your receipt!
When you buy something off of Ibotta’s list, select that offer, upload your receipt, and then scan the barcode. You can cash out once you have $20 in your account. It all adds up pretty quickly with all the different ways you can save on their app.
The one downside is that you can only upload a receipt from one of their participating stores, which is a bummer if you frequently shop at other stores that aren’t on their list like Aldi or Trader Joe’s.
Earn money or gift cards for your receipts. Seriously, it’s that easy!
Take pictures of all of your receipts no matter what you bought and where you bought it. You’ll get rewarded with “coins” that you can redeem for cash and gift cards.
The only downside to this app is that it can take longer to cash out compared to the other apps, BUT it literally takes less than a few seconds to snap a picture of your receipt. So, in my opinion, it’s totally worth it.
This is a super popular app and sometimes there’s even a waitlist to start an account with them. So don’t wait and sign up for Receipt Hog now!
I don’t know a single person who doesn’t shop at Target, so everyone needs the Target app on their phone.
There’s a section on the app called “Cartwheel offers” and you can add coupons/discounts offers to your account. They have a huge selection which includes a lot of their store-branded products.
Save the ones you want to your account. And to use them, you must remember to scan your barcode at checkout. Super simple!
Tip: If you don’t want to look at every single offer but want to know if anything in your cart has a coupon then scan the barcode using the scanner in the app. It’ll bring up any coupons associated with that item.
Walmart Savings Catcher
Walmart has a program called Savings Catcher that will automatically track if one of their competitors has a lower price on items you’ve bought.
All you have to do is upload the receipt within 7 days of purchase and if an applicable item is on sale somewhere else, you’ll get the difference back on a gift card!
The app does all the work for you! Learn more about Savings Catcher here.
Coupons.com is known for their printable coupons but did you know that they have a great app for your phone too?
There are two ways to use the app. You can earn cash back on an offer you selected by uploading a picture of your receipt. The second way to use the app is to link your store loyalty card and you can save coupons on to the linked card. Then when you buy something, you’ll already have a coupon loaded up. No physical clipping required.
I don’t think the selection is as good as some of the other apps, but you never know when something you need will pop up on there so it’s worth checking out.
